Avery returns to The Garden as Stars visit Rangers

(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New York Rangers will try to avoid their third loss in
four games this evening when they welcome the Dallas Stars for an
interconference matchup at Madison Square Garden.
This game will also mark the first test back to New York for forward Sean
Avery, who spent the previous season and a half with the Rangers before
signing a four-year, $15.5 million contract with Dallas this past summer.
Avery has two assists in his first five games with the Stars.
After beginning the season with a franchise-record-tying five straight wins,
the Blueshirts have gone 1-1-1 in their last three contests. New York did pick
up a point its last time out after dropping an overtime decision Saturday in
Detroit.
Marian Hossa's first goal in a Detroit uniform came just 23 seconds into OT to
help the Red Wings down the Rangers, 5-4, at Joe Louis Arena.
A late power-play goal tied the game for Detroit and the team scored quickly
in the extra session for the win. Pavel Datsyuk skated into the Rangers end
and dumped the puck deep to get past a defender. Datsyuk caught up to the puck
and slammed on the brakes behind the right side of the net for a clear passing
lane. He spotted Hossa charging in and sent a pass right to the tape of Hossa,
who snapped it home for the 300th goal of his career.
Aaron Voros scored twice while Nigel Dawes and Ryan Callahan each lit the lamp
for the Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist, who is 0-2-1 in his career versus Detroit,
made 40 saves.
The Rangers have a 4-1 record in home games this season, although one of those
victories came while playing Tampa Bay in Prague during the opening weekend of
the season.
Meanwhile, the Stars will try to shake off a rough 1-3-1 start to the season
and avoid a three-game losing streak.
Dallas picked up its lone victory of the season Wednesday against visiting
Nashville, but was then pounded, 6-1, in St. Louis the following night before
Saturday's 5-4 home loss to Colorado.
Milan Hejduk scored a pair of goals to lift the Avalanche to the victory at
American Airlines Center.
Marty Turco stopped just 17 shots in defeat and Brad Richards scored a goal
and assisted on another for Dallas. Brenden Morrow picked up an assist and had
what looked to be a tying goal disallowed in the third period.
Turco has struggled mightily so far in 2008-09, going 1-3-1 with an .814 save
percentage and 4.70 goals against average.
Dallas, which is 0-2-0 as the visiting team this season, kicks off a three-
game road trip tonight.
The Rangers are 2-1 with a tie in the last four encounters with Dallas.
However, the Stars are 5-2 with a tie in their previous eight stops in
Manhattan.

Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
