Devils, Hurricanes meet in Jersey for pivotal Game 5
Hockey Betting Lines
04/23/2009 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Hurricanes and Devils will both seek a series edge
tonight, as New Jersey hosts Carolina at Prudential Center in a pivotal Game 5
of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Carolina, the sixth seed, tied the series at two games apiece with Tuesday's
4-3 victory on home ice. It marked the third straight game in this set to be
decided by one goal and was also nearly the fourth consecutive overtime test.
The winner of tonight's contest will have an opportunity to end this series
when the clubs meet Sunday in Raleigh for Game 6.
The third-seeded Devils were dealt a heartbreaking loss in Game 4 at RBC
Center as they allowed the game-winning goal with just two-tenths of a second
left in regulation. Jussi Jokinen tipped in Dennis Seidenberg's point shot at
the third-period buzzer to lift Carolina.
With the game tied at three in the final minute of regulation, Joni Pitkanen
had the puck near the blue line and sent a pass to the right point. Seidenberg
blasted a shot with only seconds on the clock, and Jokinen, providing a screen
on Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur, redirected it into the net as the buzzer
sounded.
A replay showed the puck crossed the goal line before the clock hit zero.
Brodeur was particularly incensed that the goal was upheld because of an
incident moments before the goal. Prior to the puck getting to Pitkanen,
Jokinen bumped into Brodeur while skating backward toward the slot. At the
time of contact, Brodeur was about a foot outside the crease and no penalty
was called. After the goal was upheld, he slammed his stick hard into the
boards before walking off the ice.
Making the loss even more difficult to swallow was the fact that New Jersey
had rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game, but couldn't hold on for
overtime.
Eric Staal, Ryan Bayda and Chad LaRose had a goal apiece for the Hurricanes,
while Seidenberg and Pitkanen each had two assists. Cam Ward made 26 saves as
Carolina rebounded from a 4-3 overtime loss in Game 3.
Brian Gionta had a goal and assist for New Jersey, while Brendan Shanahan and
David Clarkson scored goals early in the third period to tie the game. Brodeur
faced 46 shots and stopped 42 for the Devils.
The Devils played their second straight game without captain Jamie
Langenbrunner, who suffered a lower-body injury in Game 2 and didn't make the
trip to Raleigh. Langenbrunner, whose status for Game 5 is still uncertain,
was third on the team this season in both goals (29) and points (69).
New Jersey also lost defenseman Bryce Salvador to a knee injury in Game 4 and
he is questionable for tonight's test.
The Devils had a 28-12-1 record as the host during the regular season, while
the Hurricanes were 19-16-6 away from North Carolina.
This is the fourth time since 2001 these two teams have met in the postseason.
New Jersey won the first matchup en route to the Stanley Cup Final in 2001 but
lost to the Hurricanes in both 2002 and 2006.

Terrell Owens could return for Cowboys next game
A bye week will allow Terrell Owens broken hand to recover just in time for the next game the Dallas Cowboys are slated to play, according to reports. MySportsbook.com, an football sportsbook, has posted football betting lines on TO playing.
Owens broke the bone leading to his right ring finger Sunday night and had a plate surgically attached to it Monday. Although Owens' hand was swollen and aching Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said he's optimistic the receiver will be back at work next week and catching passes a week from Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
MySportsbook.com online sportsbook listed Terrell Owens with odds of 7-2 (or $7 paid out for every $2 bet) to return back for the game against Tennessee.
"I certainly wouldn't rule it out now," Parcells said, referring to Terrell Owens immediate return. "Maybe five days from now I might, but I wouldn't rule it out now. ... I know we're looking to try to get him moving around pretty good in the next day or so. So we'll see where we are."
Owens did not speak with reporters Wednesday, but said Sunday he'd be out two to four weeks. A return against the Titans would be 13 days after the surgery. The Cowboys were listed as an early -7 1/2 favorite vs. the Tennessee Titans for Week 4 at MySportsbook.com

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship
(September 15)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.
One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.
MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting lines on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
