Federer tops Nieminen in Basel, again

Basel, Switzerland (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - In a rematch of last year's final,
hometown hero Roger Federer bested Finn Jarkko Nieminen to reach the
quarterfinals at the $1.2 million Swiss Indoors Basel.
The top-seeded/former world No. 1 Federer got past the lefthanded Nieminen in
a pair of tiebreaks, 7-6 (7-6), 7-6 (7-1), on Day 4 at St. Jakobshalle. The
Swiss superstar topped the Finn in straight sets in last year's final here to
secure a second straight title in his hometown.
The amazing Federer captured a fifth straight U.S. Open last month for
his 13th career major title.
Federer's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be improving Italian Simone
Bolelli.
In other second-round action involving seeds, No. 2 Argentine David Nalbandian
outlasted Belgian qualifier Kristof Vliegen 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), No. 3
Argentine Juan Martin del Potro pasted Swiss wild card Stephane Bohli 6-3, 6-3
and No. 4 American James Blake overcame Spaniard Oscar Hernandez 6-7 (4-7),
6-2, 6-4. Nalbandian titled here back in 2002.
One other Day-4 bout saw the aforementioned Bolelli take out Spaniard Marcel
Granollers 6-4, 6-2.
Friday's other quarters will pit Nalbandian against German qualifier Benjamin
Becker, del Potro versus sixth-seeded Russian Igor Andreev and Blake against
Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.
