Golden Panthers seek upset of 12th-ranked Hoyas

Washington, D.C. (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Georgetown Hoyas carry a five-game win
streak into tonight's non-conference home clash with the Florida International Golden Panthers.
FIU is 4-8 overall this season, including 0-5 in true road games. The club has
lost its last four outings overall, including a 62-57 setback to South Alabama
on Saturday. The Golden Panthers have been crushed by the likes of Miami, UCLA
and Washington this season, so a win over the Hoyas seems highly unlikely.
Georgetown's only loss came against a strong Tennessee squad back on November
28th. During the current five-game win streak for the Hoyas, the most
impressive victory came against Memphis in overtime, although a 27-point romp
over Maryland also raised some eyebrows. The most recent triumph for the squad
came over Mount St. Mary's this past Saturday by a 69-58 final.
It comes as no surprise that Georgetown has won both previous meetings with
FIU.
There is not a single player on the Florida International roster that has
proven capable of taking over a game at the offensive end of the court. Nikola
Gacessa paces the club with his 10.8 ppg, but those points have been the
result of his 38.3 percent shooting from the floor, a level of efficiency that
will not scare Georgetown. Michael Dominguez and Freddy Asprilla provide 10.3
ppg apiece for the Golden Panthers, and Dominguez led the team with 17 points
in the five-point loss to South Alabama on Saturday. Asprilla pitched in 16
points and 11 rebounds for FIU, which suffered 20 turnovers, the most obvious
contributing factor in the loss.
Georgetown did not play its best game against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.
The Hoyas connected on only 38 percent of their field goal attempts and failed
to earn a rebounding advantage against their underdog opponent. Still, the
Hoyas played strong defense, limiting the Mount to 38.3 percent shooting. A
25-7 edge in points from the foul line may have been the biggest key to
victory. Leading the way in the triumph was Chris Wright with his 19 points.
DaJuan Summers provided 13 points, and Austin Freeman added 10 points. Summers
is scoring a team-high 14.4 ppg, and Freeman is close behind with 13.3 ppg.
Chris Wright checks in with 13.1 ppg, and freshman center Greg Monroe provides
12.7 ppg in addition to team highs in both rebounding (5.6 rpg) and blocks
(20). The Hoyas, who are scoring 76.0 ppg on 49.9 percent overall shooting,
have managed to limit opponents to 57.6 ppg on 33.6 percent field goal
efficiency.

Marlins could start season without No. 2 starter Johnson
