Ivanovic lands in Linz quarters

Linz, Austria (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic was among
Thursday's second-round winners at the $600,000 Generali Ladies Linz
tennis event.
The top-seeded Ivanovic handled Austrian crowd favorite Sybille Bammer 6-4,
6-2 on the indoor hardcourts at Intersport Arena. The Serbian Ivanovic is
the reigning French Open champion and Australian Open runner-up.
Ivanovic was joined in the quarterfinals by second-seeded Russian Vera
Zvonareva and fifth-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova. The Olympic bronze medalist
Zvonareva zipped past helpless Spanish qualifier Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-2,
6-0, while Petrova topped Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
An upset came when Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko bounced fourth-seeded 2007 Linz
runner-up Patty Schnyder 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Schnyder lost to Slovakian Daniela
Hantuchova in last year's finale here.
Two other seeds avoided upsets, as No. 6 Marion Bartoli of France held off
Czech qualifier Petra Kvitova 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 6-3 and No. 7 surging Italian
Flavia Pennetta pasted rising Slovak Dominika Cibulkova 6-3, 6-1. Pennetta was
last week's Zurich runner-up to Wimbledon champ Venus Williams.
Friday's quarterfinals will pit Ivanovic against Pennetta, Zvonareva versus
eighth-seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, third-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska
against Petrova and Bartoli versus Bondarenko.
The 2008 Linz champion will pocket $95,500.
