02/07/2009 -
Memphis, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - O.J. Mayo had 16 points -- 12 coming in the
fourth quarter -- and eight rebounds to lead the Grizzlies in a 78-70 victory
over the Raptors, sending Toronto to its sixth consecutive defeat.
Hakim Warrick also added 16 points and eight boards for Memphis, which has won
three of four overall. Mike Conley chipped in 15 points and eight assists in
the win.
Jose Calderon poured in 18 points and five helpers for Toronto, which had
defeated Memphis four straight times coming in. Joey Graham ended with 14
points and Jason Kapono 12 in defeat; all of Kapono's points came in the
fourth quarter.
Toronto played without All-Star forward Chris Bosh, who sat because of
a sprained right knee suffered in Wednesday's loss to the Lakers.
Down by six late in the game, Kapono drained a three from the right elbow to
bring the Raptors within 73-70 with 48.3 ticks left.
Mayo, though, answered with a three of his own from the right wing with 25.7
seconds left to again make it a six-point affair.
Toronto failed to get a decent shot of on its next possession, and the home
team held on for the win.
The Raptors were up 21-18 after the first quarter but fell behind the
Grizzlies, 43-35, heading into the intermission.
Two free throws from Warrick and a dunk by Marc Gasol opened a 50-37 Memphis
lead with 7:43 left in the third quarter.
Moments later, four points from Calderon cut it to 58-51, and the Raptors
trailed 60-55 heading to the final frame.
Andrea Bargnani's free throw and Kapono's two three-pointers gave the Raptors
a 62-60 lead with 9:19 left in regulation.
Mayo then poured in nine straight points and Gasol added a layup over the
next 4 1/2 minutes to balloon the Grizzlies' lead to 71-62 with 3:48 left in
the contest.
Moments later, Kapono's three-pointer cut it to six points.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
