Nats recall Maya for highly-anticipated debut

Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Washington Nationals recalled pitcher
Yunesky Maya from Triple-A Syracuse among a quartet of moves on Tuesday prior
to their game with the New York Mets.
Maya, a right-hander, is slated to make his major league debut as the
Nationals' starter Tuesday night opposite New York's Dillon Gee, also making
his big league debut.
The Cuban defector signed with Washington on August 3 and made five starts at
three different levels in the minor leagues, going a combined 1-2 with a 3.38
earned run average.
The Nats also selected the contract of right-handed hurler Joe Bisenius from
Syracuse.
The 27-year-old appeared in two games with Philadelphia in 2007.
Left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list
after missing 30 games due to a hip injury. He is 0-2 with a 3.46 ERA in three
big league starts this season.
Washington also designated catcher Carlos Maldonado for assignment on Tuesday.
He was 3-for-11 with a home run and three runs batted in over four games this
season and is a career .185 hitter over 54 at-bats with the Pirates and Nats
in parts of three different seasons.

The bonus would be divided Saturday among the winning trainer, jockey, owner and a charity, with each receiving 25 percent. The designated charity is the Barbaro Memorial Fund.
''It's certainly creative, it's certainly fun and it has something for the horsemen, which we always want to embrace,'' Churchill Downs president and chief executive Robert Evans said at a news conference. ''What's really cool is it will force us to remember Barbaro.''
Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.
Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.
''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''
Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.
Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.
”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''

In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.
Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
